Janet L. Gemmell, Attorney
Janet L. Gemmell
When you see Janet in her office or on the street, you might think the telephone receiver is permanently attached to her ear. She spends the majority of her time talking with other attorneys and with clients, determined to get them through a difficult time. She doesn't promise pie in the sky – family law issues aren't easy – but she promises to be there every step of the way.
How would you like an internship where you watch the soldiers of the 82nd Airborne jump out of planes at Fort Bragg? Janet did exactly this. She also interned in a highly selective program in the United States District Attorney's Office. How's that for diverse?
Always in a hurry to get things done, Janet graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in three years. Somehow, she managed to find time during those three years to participate in the North Carolina Student Legislature. When one of her bills was passed in the real North Carolina Legislature, however, there was nothing "student" about it!
She earned her law degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University and was selected in 1999 as one of a three-person team to represent Campbell University School of Law at the National Christian Legal Society Conference. Janet came to Rosen from Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice in Winston-Salem, and she now contributes articles on divorce law to local publications, as well as the Rosen Law Firm website.
People would say Janet appears to be utterly fearless - from presenting at the firm's monthly Divorce Legal Seminars sponsored by the YWCA and The Women's Center of Wake County to jumping off a three-story cliff into water in Jamaica (and climbing up through a cave to get out of the water.) She once climbed a volcano in Ecuador as it was awakening, and she participates in the "Lawyers in the Schools" program where she educates students on divorce law in North Carolina. You decide which of these requires more courage. Next on Janet's list is learning to surf, hang-glide, and rock climb.
People rely on Janet to be empathetic and helpful, but she also knows how to have a good time. Just ask her two German Shepherds, "Fiesta" and "Fete." (Their names mean "party" in Spanish and French, respectively.)
