Despite the potential grooming hazards of restoring his old BMW motorcycle in his free time, you’ll never see a spot of grease on Scott’s suit. He’s much too careful for that. But he does confess to the need for speed. He once drove a souped-up Miata in the Autocross and was champion in his category.

After his children were born, Scott made a decision to slow it down a notch, but he still likes to take motorcycles and cars apart utilizing the skills he learned from his hot rod father.

Family law may not be the most daredevil of professions, but Scott really enjoys his work. He stumbled upon it while an undergraduate (magna cum laude, thank you very much) studying philosophy, religion, and political science at North Carolina State University. He got a part-time job with a domestic law firm and was so impressed with the field that he enrolled in law school at UNC Chapel Hill. His decision to go into law meant giving up his intended graduate work in philosophy. Yes, Scott is that rare combination of philosopher, mechanic, and attorney.

A North Carolina native, Scott has practiced family law in Raleigh for nearly seventeen years. He’s an experienced litigator but is also trained as a family law mediator and collaborative lawyer. Since 1994, he has frequently appeared in the district and superior courts of Wake County, Durham County, and Johnston County and, of course, is admitted to practice before the federal court in Raleigh.

A past co-chair of Wake County Family Lawyers, Scott occasionally spends time at the podium of legal education seminars. A few years ago, one of his clients introduced him to a new hobby – amateur radio. He became licensed as an operator and now serves as Volunteer Counsel for the American Radio Relay League. Okay, so he’s a rare combination of philosopher, mechanic, radio operator, and attorney.

When he isn’t knee-deep in grease, Scott loves to spend time with his wife and two children and attends St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Garner, NC.
